Hi, sandwich generation—we see you! Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teens, or grandparents, planning a vacation that suits everyone takes creativity. At Camp Kulisha—our lakeside Minocqua vacation rental—we’ve hosted many extended family groups and offer a few suggestions to help you build a flexible itinerary for a fun, bonding week.
Seek flat or paved trails
Grandparents might appreciate secure footing. The Bearskin Trail is a great choice—accessible from downtown Minocqua. To skip the crowds, pick up the trail from our place by parking off Blue Lake Road.
Visit a nature center
The Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest has a great nature center. Scavenger hunts can keep everyone moving and are often available for free. Or, skip the nature center, and bring a Wisconsin state parks discovery kit for a DIY naturalist walk.
Try a new ice cream flavor
Who says ice cream can’t be dinner? (I’m channeling my husband, Jesse, as I write this.) Less cooking, more stargazing. We love the simplicity and proximity of Briq’s—but one of the other Minocqua-area shops could match your itinerary.
Sit, wander, shop and be entertained
Sometimes it’s nice to be with people and focus on something else besides each other! We have a detailed blog with live music, outdoor markets, museums and cultural events. When we host friends or family, we always offer a Minocqua Bats water ski show because it has such a long, deep history in the community.
Pack simple games for screen-free downtime
We always travel with games. Even before we agreed on a no-phones-at-dinner policy, simple games helped us pass the time while waiting for food or winding down at night. Two family favorites: SET & Tenzi.
Boat to dinner on the Minocqua chain of lakes
Don’t feel like cooking? Motor across the lake to your dinner reservation! Check out our detailed recommendations for restaurants on the Minocqua chain of lakes.
Prepare for Northwoods weather
I remind my parents to bring a rain jacket every time they visit the Northwoods. Getting caught in a downpour can turn a fun day sour real quick. Here’s our Northwoods packing list for visitors.
